BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior guard Malik Miller scored a game and career-high 32 points and Isaiah Burke matched his career-high with 30 points to lead Morgan State to a 90-85 victory over South Carolina State on Monday night. With the win, the Bears improve to an 8-8 overall record, 2-0 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and remain unbeaten at home with a 6-0 mark.
The last time Morgan had two players score 30 or more points in the same game was Jan. 6, 2018, against Florida A&M — Tiwian Kendley scored 35 points and Phillip Carr scored 32.
Morgan State will take on crosstown rival Coppin State on Saturday afternoon at Physical Education Complex Arena. Tip-off is slated for4:00 p.m. (EST) and fans can catch the action live via coppinstatesports.com.
North Carolina Central 64, Coppin State 59
BALTIMORE, Md. – The North Carolina Central University men’s basketball team utilized efficient offense and stout defense to fly past Coppin State University with a 64-59 wire-to-wire road victory on Monday night.
NCCU opened with a blistering 14-2 run, sprinting out to a 20-6 lead. After the scorching start, the Eagles went cold for roughly five minutes. In that same time span, CSU was able to create some offense and cut the deficit to two (22-20). The final six minutes saw NCCU go on a 13-4 scoring run to go into the half with a 35-24 lead.
Up next, NCCU (8-8, 1-1 MEAC) will continue its conference slate, hosting South Carolina State University inside McDougald-McLendon Arenaon Saturday, Jan. 14.
Norfolk State 78, Delaware State 65
DOVER, Del. – Joe Bryant, Jr. scored 19 of his 20 points in the second half on Monday, putting away the opposing Delaware State Hornets in the final stretch as NSU earned a 78-65 road victory.
The veteran Bryant may have provided the spark in the game’s final 20 minutes, but a rookie kept NSU in front throughout the first half. Playing just the second MEAC contest of his young career, freshman George Beale, Jr. scored a career-high 19 points on Monday, making 5-of-6 attempts from behind the arc.
Norfolk State returns to Echols Hall on Saturday for a matchup with the Howard Bison (8-10, 1-1). The game will be live-streamed on HBCU League Pass+ and broadcast on 91.1 FM.
Maryland Eastern Shore 82, Howard 73
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — A stellar shooting night helped the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men’s basketball team secure its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win of the season, knocking off Howard University 82-73 at Hytche Athletic Center on Monday evening.
The win over the Bison moves UMES to 6-0 at home and an even 8-8 overall this season. It is also the Hawks’ first win over Howard since January 4, 2020, and the team’s second victory over the Bison since the 2015-16 season.
The Hawks get a breather after their first MEAC weekend of the season. The group will look to secure their seventh consecutive home victoryon Saturday, January 14 when they host the Delaware State Hornets at the Hytche.
